建築家の登竜門 AA Schoolのプロジェクト・レビュー – AA School Projects Review 2009

建築界とは無関係の人でも一度は聞いたことがあるのではないでしょうか。
そんな今日の建築界を牽引しているといっても過言ではない多くの世界的建築家を輩出してきた
AA School (Architectural Association School of Architecture) のプロジェクトレビューにいってきました。
やっぱり模型もグラフィックもかなりプレゼンテーションのレベルが高いです。

Projects Review offers an overview of the AA’s 2008/09 academic year. On display are hundreds of drawings, models, installations, photographs and other materials documenting the world’s most international and experimental school of architecture. The work of the AA’s 600+ full-time students ranges from small-scale studies and drawings to large 1:1 working prototypes, interactive media and built installations, including the annual AA summer pavilion in Bedford Square. The exhibition also includes selected projects originating from the AA’s Hooke Park campus in Dorset and our Research Cluster initiatives as well as from the immensely diverse design workshops and public events associated with the AA’s global Visiting School, undertaken in more than a dozen cities since its launch in early 2008.
As visitors move through the main AA school buildings, they are encouraged to create their own pathway through the myriad agendas of the school’s design units and programmes. A broad range of intensive architectural speculation,
vision and experimentation is shown, in spaces curated independently by each platform within the school, in a manner consistent with tutors’ and students’ aims.
At the AA School architecture is pursued as a form of cultural knowledge, learning and enquiry, across year-long design projects and portfolios. At the AA we believe that truly great schools don’t just nurture and support architectural
talent: they build audiences for genuinely experimental ideas, out of which new architectural ideas, visions and projects emerge.
Please join us as part of this audience, which the AA remains committed to building and promoting at the forward edge of architectural culture, practice and learning.

建築レポート

いろんな形の開口部。部分的に模型の棚になっている。
表現のスキルがとてもレベル高いなと思う一方、
全体的にフォルマリズム(形態主義)な印象で、ロンドンの現代建築の風潮にも似ています。
新しい形・新しい表現・奇抜なアイディアを模索することが目的化していて、
本当にこの建築が住みやすいのかとか、周景との関係はどうなのかとか、
あたり前であることがゆるされない空気をかんじました。
僕は建築、特に住宅は「普通」であることつまり、
使う人・周辺の環境に対して空気のように寄り添うのが正しいあり方だと思うので、
ロンドンにきて同年代の人たちのこういう作品をみるといろいろと考えさせられるのでした。
ある意味、これまでの歴史重視のイギリスの風潮の反動が
オリンピックが引き金になって爆発したといったところでしょうか。
アカデミックな場所では普通でないことを求められるのはなおさら、というのはわかるのですが…
そうでない評価のものさしを僕らがもたないといけないのだろうなと
ロンドンにきてから特に強く思うようになりました。
これは、生まれたときには既に歴史的景観なんて奪われてしまっていた
80年代生まれの日本人だからこその感覚なのかもしれません。隣の芝は青いというやつでしょうか。
